Established in 2002, Aesthetica is an international art and culture magazine based in York. We are looking for a Content Editor to join our team who will plan, produce, edit and commission content for Aesthetica Magazine and all related projects, including the programmes and publications for the Aesthetica Short Film Festival, Aesthetica Art Prize, Future Now Symposium and the Aesthetica Creative Writing Award.
You will work alongside our Editor and Creative Producer to find and develop extraordinary content. You will work on the production of Aesthetica Magazine and contribute to our website and social media channels. A keen interest in contemporary art and culture is a must. You need to love art and writing as well as have a thirst for finding exciting artists. This job is based in our offices in York, UK. It is not a remote position.
Job Requirements
- Creative with the ability to source newsworthy content.
- Excellent organisational skills, pro-active with a positive can-do attitude.
- Outstanding written skills with a journalistic flair and who can produce high quality content to extremely tight deadlines.
- Have an eagle eye for detail and be able to fact-check as you work.
- Be approachable, friendly and a good communicator.
- Be able to forge strong working relationships with colleagues and external contacts including curators, artists, writers and press agents.
- Be able to work accurately and calmly under pressure.
Job Responsibilities
- Researching, finding and presenting appropriate editorial content.
- Source images, photographers and secure publication rights.
- Commission and edit copy to maintain high editorial standards.
- Setting up and conducting interviews.
- Organising contributors and journalists.
- Maintain relationships with freelance contacts.
- Write engaging copy for the magazine, website, social media posts and newsletters.
- Liaising with press agents and be a point of contact for editorial enquiries.
- Collating and checking print editorial and images using InDesign.
- Proofreading and subediting editorial content.
- Uploading text and images to a website using content management systems.
- Ensure brand values are maintained across all platforms.
- Manage editorial across the publications, website and social media.
