Content Designer
Salary: From £31,500 per annum negotiable depending on experience
Contract: Permanent

Jisc is the UK higher, further education and skills sectors’ not-for-profit organisation for digital services and solutions. We believe education and research improves lives, and technology improves education and research.

Our vision is for the UK to be a world leader in technology for education and research and our mission is to power and empower our members with the technology and data they need to succeed. We know that digital technology has the ability to transform the student experience. We have the experience, expertise and know-how to drive that transformation.

About the role:
The brand experience area of marketing and communications brings together the primary touchpoints for members and customers into a single function, ensuring those touchpoints are always effective, powerful and tuned to our purpose, vision and values.

Our content designers make sure appropriate content is shown to our audiences in the right place and in the best format. You will be joining a team of content specialists, so this role is less about content writing and more about making sure content is presented in a way that meets our users’ needs.

We are looking for a creative and dynamic individual to help deliver our content strategy, working with subject specialists and colleagues across marketing and communications - effectively communicating the information users need and want while raising the profile of our brand.

You will be passionate about using evidence-based approaches and brimming with ideas for how we can iterate and improve content. You’re ready to seize this challenge to ensure the delivery of a user-focused, sustainable, accessible, and legally compliant online presence for Jisc.

Other responsibilities will include:
  • Creating and iterating content for end-to-end services, offering recommendations on the best tools and methods to use.
  • Designing content that truly engages our members with the great work we’re doing, bringing the power of digital technology to education and research.
  • Working directly with teams across the organisation, understanding their communication needs and helping them meet their objectives.
  • Working with content supplied from different sources, implementing Jisc’s brand book and style guides and making sure that content is accessible.
  • Evaluating content and exploring research insights to support content design decisions.
  • Working with colleagues in the UX and development teams to improve the functionality and usability of the site.

Key skills and experience:
  • Experience of working in content design or web editing using a CMS, ideally on large websites with a variety of rich content, eg thought leadership, advice and guidance, reports, member stories etc.
  • Experience liaising and negotiating with content owners, development teams, designers, and senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage relationships effectively and communicate clearly and regularly with stakeholders.
  • Understanding agile methodologies to help teams to manage and visualise outcomes, prioritise work and work to an agreed minimum viable product (MVP)
  • Good knowledge of:
  • Writing for the web
  • Management and operation of a web content management system
  • Web data analysis
  • Information architecture
  • UX and user interface design
