Our city by the sea is known and loved for its diversity and has a uniquely crafted national and international identity rooted in our culture and heritage. We are rich in health and wellbeing assets however the success of our city masks issues related to poverty, inequality and fairness. You will need to be committed to work with local organisations and communities to make the city a fairer and healthier place for everyone.

Closing date: extended to midnight Sunday 2 July 2023

Interview date: Wednesday 12 July 2023

About the role

You will be an exceptional team player who is highly effective at making change happen. This is a great opportunity to make a real difference in the city – if this challenge excites you then this is the job for you.

The roles and responsibilities of the post will be flexible however your key responsibilities will include:

  • leading on health protection
  • providing expert healthcare public health advice for our place-based health and care partnership (including CVD prevention) and
  • leading our Health & Wellbeing Strategy action plan to enable residents to age well.

You will join a friendly, forward thinking and dynamic Public Health department that includes four public health consultant led teams. We are committed to professional development and place a strong focus on workplace wellbeing. Fairness and inclusion are at the heart of our vision and your leadership will be vital in delivering this.

We are based in the Health and Adult Social Care Directorate and work across the Council and beyond to influence the wider determinants of health. We have strong and productive relationships with organisations across the Sussex Health and Care Partnership (ICS), including NHS Trusts and our partner Public Health teams; UKHSA & OHID; our local community & voluntary sector and other city organisations.

Please read our Apply for a job at the council (brighton-hove.gov.uk) pages carefully. They give you all the guidance you need to complete your application as well as information on what will happen after you’ve submitted your application and at interview.

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and upload a supporting statement. Your supporting statement is the most important part of your application as it will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Supporting statement guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk)) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.
