This is a full-time post to be part of a newly developed Department of General Internal Medicine and you will join an expanding team of motivated Consultants. Those working towards the CESR qualification who already have experience working at the consultant level are encouraged to contact the department to discuss other options.
Main duties of the role:
- Diagnosing and treating a wide spectrum of clinical problems, ranging from acutely ill young people to elderly patients with multiple complex co-morbidities.
- Looking after patients that do not fall into the remit of a specific medical specialty or are deemed to have complex medical problems involving multiple symptoms and co-morbidities.
- Provide continued care both in the inpatient and outpatient setting for this patient group. The Internal Medicine physician would both the direct treatment of such patients and orchestrate specialist care where needed.
- Clinics activity as outlined below.
- Supporting a complex patient MDT.
- Support our links into community care including supporting virtual ward environments.
- Supervision of Higher Specialty Trainees in Internal Medicine, IMT stage 0ne trainees, and Clinical fellows working towards CESR in GIM. Formal Education and Clinical Supervisor roles are available with suitable training.
- To develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
- To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
- To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed upon both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
- To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.
Essential Requirements:
- MBBS or equivalent.
- Full GMC registration.
- MRCP (UK) or Equivalent.
