Applications are invited for the Consultant in Cardiology post. This post is within the Cardiology Department/Specialist Medicine Care group of the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro.
We are currently a team of 9 substantive full-time Cardiologists, 1 part-time Cardiologist on retire and return scheme, and 3 NHS Fixed Term Locums (covering 2 maternity leaves and a vacancy).
This post is principally designed to support delivery of non-interventional Cardiology services, specifically Heart Failure and Devices.
Applicants should have a broad training in all aspects of Cardiology. The candidate will be expected to take part in the General Cardiology service on the wards and in out-patients. The on-call rota is manned by the 7 Interventional Cardiologists only with no separate General Cardiology on-call. The non-interventional Cardiologists deliver comprehensive weekend ward rounds including visits to the Acute Medical Unit to review new referrals.
There is no general medical commitment.
Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share, while recognising that the full-time post attracts up to a 12 PA job plan.
The post is advertised as full time with a 10 PA job plan, although if candidates wish to, the job plan can be adjusted up to 12 PAs.
Candidates pursuing a part-time post or job-share may also be considered. A generic job plan is attached; the content of the final job plan will be dictated by the clinical skills the successful applicant brings.
The post holder will share the in-patient management of Cardiology patients with the twelve existing full time consultants. Inpatients are managed on CIU and Roskear wards and the CCU, although there are also outlying patients. The Cardiologists are responsible for the clinical management of all patients on the CCU and CIU and cardiology patients on Roskear.
There will be 1 in 7 or 2 in 14 weeks (depending on appointments) where one consultant is the Cardiologist of the week (COW) and has full responsibility for inpatients, with daily ward rounds performed.
