About The Role
Are you an experienced marine fisheries specialist with a proven track record in consultancy? APEM Ltd, an award-winning environmental consultancy, is actively seeking a marine fisheries principal consultant to join our expanding team.
As a principal consultant, you will be at the forefront of our expanding marine power sector, specifically in renewable power developments such as tidal and offshore wind. Your responsibilities will include conducting assessments of fish entrapment, fish screening, and noise and vibration interpretation. You'll also work closely with our UK-wide client base, building relationships, and managing a small team of professionals dedicated to protecting fish stocks in UK waters.

About the role
As the technical lead for marine fisheries ecology, you will provide expert advice and guidance to both colleagues and clients, demonstrating an extensive understanding of marine ecology assessment requirements. One of your key responsibilities will be to oversee and provide expert review for a wide range of marine ecological assessments, such as scoping reports, EIA, HRA reports, and WFD assessments.
In addition to your technical expertise, you will also have management responsibilities for a variety of fisheries projects. This will involve ensuring successful delivery to a diverse client base, as well as coordinating and delivering tendering activity with the support of APEM's highly experienced fisheries team.
As part of the role, you will be responsible for fisheries survey design, stakeholder and client engagement, data review and collation, as well as data analysis and interpretation. This will require close collaboration with colleagues and clients to ensure that projects are delivered to the highest standards.
About you
Essential -
- A strong professional track record in marine fisheries ecology and ecological assessment.
- Excellent understanding of marine fisheries ecology and assessment with relevant commercial awareness
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of policy/legislation relevant to marine ecology conservation and its application for marine ecology assessments
- Prior experience in organising and coordinating marine fisheries surveys and be well versed in both the completion and reviewing of others work for fish and shellfisheries chapters of impact assessments (including HRA, EIA)
Desirable -
- Previous experience of the marine power sector with a good knowledge of the requirements for power station and renewable power (tidal and offshore wind) development assessments including fish entrapment, fish screening and noise and vibration interpretation.
