Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Education is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to provide leadership and technical expertise, facilitate policy development and implementation, represent the department as needed, plan and administer programs for the Division of School Performance and Support and provide technical assistance to the Board of Education. This position will oversee all work related to assessment, accountability, school improvement, and educator preparation. Pursuant to Sections 2.2-3114 and 2.2-3115 of the Code of Virginia, the position of Deputy Superintendent for Student Performance and Support has been designated to file by the Code of Virginia, an annual "Statement of Economic Interests" form.

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of Virginia’s educational accountability program, particularly the Standards of Learning and assessment programs; accountability and accreditation systems; and policies and procedures for assessment, accountability, accreditation at the state and federal level.
- Ability to manage large scale instructional improvement programs and to communicate complex information to various audiences orally and in writing.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate staff.
- Ability to establish and manage budgets.
- Experience providing support to local school divisions for improved student outcomes.
- Knowledge of educator pipeline strategies including apprenticeships, residencies, and innovative higher education partnerships.
- Skilled in licensure procedures and processes to create systematic improvement to effective processing of licensure programs.
- Ability to lead toward improved student performance outcomes and measure progress toward those outcomes.
- Experience in public education administration at the management or executive level; administering comprehensive instructional programs and school improvement planning; and working with the general public, administrators, and government officials to resolve educational issues.
- Experience in budget allocation and management and evaluation of staff.
- Proven track record of providing support to local administrators and instructional staff to support student growth and achievement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An advanced college degree in Education, in Education Administration/Supervision, Education Leadership, or a related field preferred.
