Working Pattern: Days (37.5 hours per week, typical hours are 07:30 – 15:40 or 08:10 – 16:20).
Location: Sellafield, West Cumbria (you may be required to visit other locations).
What will the Successful Candidate be Doing:
Do you have experience of being responsible for the transport of goods in a highly regulated environment? We’re looking for people with a passion and interest in maths and science to join our team as a Consignment Officer.
As a Consignment Officer, you will be an essential part of our team responsible for overseeing the safe, compliant, secure transport of all nine classes of dangerous goods for Sellafield Ltd. You will maintain the company’s reputation as a safe, compliant, reliable, predictable, and efficient transporter of dangerous goods – while delivering advice and guidance to others. In relation to this, they will also carry out audits and inspections on the Sellafield Site and at other locations.
The Consignment Officer will also carry out witnessing and monitoring of all the duties of the transport participants, relating to the activities they are responsible for. They will also oversee the dispatch of consignments, these tasks require individuals to be mobile across various buildings/locations. They will classify materials in accordance with the appropriate legislation along with carrying out packaging calculations.

The Ideal Candidate:
Essential Skills:
- 3 GCSEs (Grade C or above including Maths and English (or equivalent qualifications)
- Experience of working in a highly regulated environment.
- Planning and organisational skills to set clearly defined objectives.
- Experience planning activities in a timely manner and independently monitoring performance against deadlines and milestones.
- Proven experience of applying analytical and numeracy skills to review information, understand complex problems and to draw appropriate conclusions.
- Proven communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed technical reports.
- Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and customers.
- Confident use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word.)
- The ability to achieve the appropriate security clearance.
Desirable Skills:
- A degree in a STEM subject.
- Knowledge of regulations pertaining to the transport of dangerous goods (CDG, ADR, RID)
- Qualifications in the movement of all classes of Dangerous Goods, in particular Class 7 Radioactive Material training; Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 by Road, Rail Sea and Air (or ability to achieve)
- Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor qualification by Road and Rail (or ability to achieve)
