Job description

Playground Games is looking for an Environment Concept Artist to join our talented Fable team here in Leamington Spa.

ABOUT US:

As a first-party Xbox Game Studio, we are passionate about making genre-defining games that are accessible, beautiful, and, most of all, fun.

We're expanding our diverse team to create outstanding experiences in the gaming industry.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As an Environment Concept Artist, you'll play a critical role in designing a diverse range of game environments and props. Working in close collaboration with the Art team, you will transform initial ideas into breathtaking environment concepts and production paintings. Our ideal candidate has a strong command over visual design and a portfolio that illustrates their exceptional fundamental art skills. An adaptable, highly driven, and meticulous individual would best fit this role.

We're seeking an artist capable of instilling their work with a whimsical, fairy-tale essence, showcasing a sensitivity often lost in modern fantasy epics.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Develop high-fidelity concepts for game environments and props, contributing to a cinematic finish. Produce compelling, whimsical designs across various game elements.
  • Work synergistically with the Narrative, Gameplay, and Art teams to create flexible, iterative designs that inspire the entire team.
  • Design unique concepts for environmental elements in line with our established art vision and historical construction techniques.
  • Actively incorporate feedback from Art Leads and the Art Director.
  • Solve visual challenges creatively while remaining mindful of technical and gameplay restrictions.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • An impressive portfolio demonstrating superior fundamental art skills, particularly in environment design.
  • An understanding and appreciation of historical architecture, environment, and prop construction, and the practical requirements driving a design.
  • A clear grasp of concept art techniques.
  • A keen eye for composition and visual design principles.
  • An excellent understanding of light and color, silhouettes, and value relationships.
  • A strong sketching ability to capture core ideas in the initial stages of your work.
  • Excellent communication skills.

This is an incredible opportunity to create a world-class game with an established, talented, and collaborative team at one of the industry's most exciting first-party game studios.

We are an equal opportunities studio and encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds.
