As Concept Artist at Armature Studio, you’ll help define the visual direction for the studio’s games alongside our award-winning Creative Director and talented group of industry professionals. You’ll bring thrilling, edge-of-your-seat AAA experiences to VR by visualizing characters, environments, story moments, props, and bespoke visual FX.For this role, you should be an experienced visual designer of worlds, characters, and the props that bring the game to life visually while reinforcing the intended game experience. You should have worked with creative directors, artists, designers, animators, and vfx artists to visually define the creative vision, helping others to create work that is visually cohesive. You should have a robust knowledge and skill in rendering a wide range of visual concepts, from realistic to highly stylized. Experience working with license holders to maintain established visual styles or design new and interesting visual styles using their IP is an added bonus.
- Work with the Creative Director and other stakeholders to help define the visual style for the game
- Assist in the creation of style guides, reference gathering and material call outs for internal and external teams
- Work with artists to create functional, in-engine working examples of the art style, to define best practices and the production pipeline for the game
- Create supporting art for model production art including guides, turns, material call outs, and storyboards for cinematic sequences
- Keep aware and educated on industry trends and tools for Visual Direction and concept art
- Proactively identify important Visual Direction problems and bring solutions
- A portfolio that demonstrates experience creating concepts for art teams in a variety of styles ranging from realistic to stylized designs
- 4+ years of experience in the games industry as an Concept Artist
- Shipped at least one AAA title as an Concept Artist
- Proven experience with foundational art skills in shape language, color, composition, lighting, perspective, and anatomy
- Experience providing critical analysis and feedback of in-game art, balancing game design goals with aesthetic
- Experience with visual branding and IP in the context of marketing campaigns
- 2+ years experience in 3d art creation pipelines/packages
- Experience in designing worlds that work within constraints of real time environments
- Experience designing Visually for VR worlds, characters etc
