As a Lead Character Concept Artist, you’ll lead and develop your team in the pursuit of delivering the highest quality work to meet and exceed client and project expectations, this will often require the need to work quickly and consistently deliver innovative and high-quality ideas and polished final art/designs.
You’ll interpret client briefs and mentor and guide colleagues as well as taking an active in staff training and development, assisting with monthly artist one-to-ones and bi-annual appraisals, as your help with the growth and development of your art team.
Your responsibilities…
- Lead multiple teams to deliver work for projects, that differ in style and finish
- Ensures that the work captivates the viewer’s imagination with effective storytelling
- Review documentation, briefs, and visual targets for multiple projects
- Effectively brief teams on new and existing work and help to define creative workflows
- Set schedules and breaks down workflows for new projects alongside Production
- Speak on behalf of the project, to clients during onsite and offsite visits and weekly meetings
- Actively proposes mitigation plans for identified risks and problems
- Help define and communicate both technical and non-technical, information to Art Team, Production and Management
- Adapt content and information for the intended audience
- Be involved in the recruiting and hiring process for your team
- Give regular feedback to teams with the ability to inspire those around you
- Be actively involved in staff training and development and lead by example
- Assist with monthly artist one-to-ones and bi-annual appraisals
- Experience in creating AAA standard concept art within a senior or leadership capacity with an extensive profile to showcase this
- Proven record of creating artwork for major projects
- Line-management and project leadership experience
- Ability to create artwork that is well presented and defined from sketch through to final polish
- Solving creative problems through innovative design, balancing form and function
- Fluency in Photoshop and an understanding of complimentary software and tools
- Experience using 3D software such as Core, Mudbox, Blender, 3DsMax, Z-Brush and Maya
- A strong grasp of colour, light, composition, anatomy, perspective, and depth
- The ability to provide multiple creative options, then iterate upon them as projects progress
- Comfortable switching quickly and fluidly to new requirements and processes when required
- Ability to understand creative briefs and consider relevant elements such as context, timescales and creative constraints
