We have 6 months of funding to conduct research into the health inequalities faced by communities in Peterborough. This research aims to improve community engagement with health services in ways which ensure health needs are met.

The role is funded through an NHS Integrated Care System fund to address health inequalities. We are partnering with staff from the NHS Research and Development Team, National Institute of Health Research, and GP surgeries across the City.

We are looking for a candidate who has an understanding of community health and experience in conducting research. But most importantly, they need to be a team player, somebody who enjoys getting stuck in with community groups, and passionate about addressing inequalities.

Main duties

To connect with, recruit, and engage community members in research. This will involve:

· Community mapping with partners to identify target population

· Recruit members of target population

· Map and coordinate existing health initiatives across Peterborough and sought future infrastructure building and health capacity opportunities

Be involved in the ethical collection of data:

· Woking with PCVS Community Health Lead and public health staff to ensure participant recruitment is conducted ethically.

· Collect and record appropriate data to evidence delivery and outcomes, using agreed systems and processes and subject to current data protection legislation.

To conduct health inequalities research through:

· Coordinating and growing community health research network by liaising with health and higher education partners

· Connecting cohorts of GPs and cohorts of academic partners

· Liaising with clinical leads and surgery staff in GP surgeries within target populations

· Working with health care assistants, social prescribers, health project officers, community groups and others to adapt study material to ensure research can be conducted

· Share research outputs across health and community sectors through publication, seminars, conferences, and in other means

Work with partners and PCVS colleagues to continue post:

· Foster links with Cambridge University Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre inclusivity lead and other acute/mental health research settings to increase potential synergies for more research to reach the TP and similar communities in future.

· Work with Community Health Lead to understand additional research opportunities within PCVS.

· To work with partners and Community Health Lead to explore additional funding opportunities for the PCVS Health Network.

· To identify and build further links with Health relevant to the running of this programme.

Support broader PCVS team:

· To work with the Health panel, Health and Wellbeing Forum, and social prescribing team to ensure that projects are supported with an appropriate infrastructure.

· Be part of the PCVS team and contribute to the development and success of the organisation

· To adhere to PCVS policies and procedures and support the quality standards required of ISO 9001 accreditation

· Any other tasks and duties commensurate with this role and salary level

Please note: Whilst the focus of this role is working within public health to address health inequalities, there will be crossover with our funded health and recovery projects.

A minimum of one year’s practical research experience in additional to community development work is required for this role.

GCSE A*-C or equivalent in Maths and English.

Demonstrates continual professional development

Degree qualification in relevant subject.

L2/3 NVQ Community Development or post graduate level research experience.
