Community Engagement Officer
We are looking for someone who is passionate about animal welfare and their community to join our team as a Community Engagement Officer.
Reporting to the Fundraising Manager, you will be responsible for raising the profile and awareness of our organisation; attracting new supporters, engaging our local community through organised activities, and developing supporter relationships.
You will be a positive voice in our community and develop a good working knowledge of our branch areas and the communities we support.
Using the research and knowledge you will gain as part of your role, you will help promote our animal welfare work to our local community and beneficiaries through engagement, education and creativity.
About the Charity and role:
The RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford & District Branch is a local, independent charity supporting animal welfare in Calderdale, Huddersfield and Bradford.
Our Animal Centre cares for, rehabilitates, trains and finds homes for over 400 cats, dogs and small animals every year.
The RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford & District Branch never put a healthy animal to sleep.
We are a self funded branch of the National RSPCA and responsible for raising our own funds within our local area.
Our RSPCA Branch is run by people who are passionate about animals and their welfare. Our Centre provides safety for the many animals in our area that are unwanted, neglected or cruelly treated.
Although our main role is as a rehoming centre, we also have schemes to help rehome or foster elderly animals, we run regular dog training and behaviour classes and we offer welfare assistance by providing low cost neutering and micro-chipping to designated members of the public, along with supplying a number of local food banks with pet food and blankets.
You will be joining a dedicated team who are driven by their passion for the animals we care for, our ultimate goal is to make sure we give the best care from the best team to ensure the animals get the best homes.
Our successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage with a wide range of people face to face and online, and a sense of humour is a must!
Specific responsibilities
Community Engagement –
- Arrange and deliver interesting community engagement activities and experiences to promote the work of our Animal Centre.
- Encourage and promote animal adoptions and fostering opportunities.
- Grow and develop new ways for supporters to fundraise for our Animal Centre.
- Understand the needs of new and existing supporters to advise and support them in their own fundraising or promotional activities.
- Attend local networking group sessions and actively source opportunities to talk about the work we do.
- Encourage all branch volunteering opportunities incl. Fundraising, Charity Shops, Home Visitor and Fostering.
- Represent the RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield Bradford & District Branch in the community and play an active and visible role with volunteers, local media and all supporters.
Partnership Development –
- Working in our branch area, develop a network of support and collaboration with businesses, community groups and organisations to help strengthen our brand and reputation in the community.
- Build relationships with local businesses and individuals to maximise support and publicity for our events.
- Work with other organisations and groups to increase our presence in the community.
Events –
- Organise, support and deliver our current calendar of events.
- Help to develop new ideas with our Community and Events Fundraiser.
- Attend fundraising events as required, potentially in a wide range of locations requiring travel. This will involve some weekend work.
- Identify opportunities to establish new events and campaigns in allocated areas.
Marketing –
- Create content as needed for social media, community talks and branch literature.
Strategy –
- Work with the Fundraising Manager to ensure the charity’s strategic plan is at the core of all activities.
- Provide reports on all activities, branch development ideas and future planning.
General
- Attend and contribute to team meetings and training courses when required.
- Provide support and understanding of the charity’s goals and future plans.
- Ensure the health and safety of participants and volunteers at all events and activities.
- Provide excellent service of care to our supporters ensuring long lasting relationships.
- You will be expected to always produce work of a high standard and quality.
- You will have knowledge of our branch and the National RSPCA to help communicate our goals and mission to supporters.

Salary: £25,330.00 per year
