- Work as directed, alongside Flying Start/Family Hub and wider Public Health colleagues to deliver a range of key messages into communities on genetic risks using a culturally sensitive approach.
- Build trust within community groups through an empathetic and person-centred approach to empower families and develop health literacy/knowledge within communities.
- Promote the programme with health professionals and work alongside the Genetics Midwife employed by the Luton & Dunstable Hospital to identify families who would benefit or request information.
- Improve access to services using a range of methods, including NHS England health promotion materials, aimed at reducing stigma and increasing uptake of genetic testing within Southern Asian communities and others.
- Deliver key public health messages to families you engage with and signpost families to wider services on offer in the Family Hub.
- Increase awareness of and referrals to Flying Start programmes by linking with midwifery and health visiting services, primary and secondary care providers, education providers and community and voluntary organisations.
Essential criteria:
- Ability to speak Urdu fluently in order to communicate both verbally and in writing with Southern Asian community groups.
- Level 3 qualification in a health, child or family support related subject.
- Proven demonstrable experience of working with families providing early intervention services and advice, either in a children centre, health, early help team, childcare setting, school or community group.
- Commitment to supporting families and increasing opportunities to help reduce health inequalities.
- Experience in providing families with sensitive information in an empathetic and appropriate way.
- Good understanding of baby and child development and the role of the care giver.
