The Role

We’re looking for a Communications Officer to join our team of dedicated communications professionals at the heart of our University community.

An excellent communicator with experience in creating and generating content for a range of channels, you will assist in the delivery of an effective University-wide programme of internal communications and events designed to engender a sense of community across the institution and to a wider audience.

Reporting to the Head of Internal Communications and working closely with the Head of Media Relations, this is an exciting opportunity to be involved in supporting the work of both teams to deliver effective internal and external communications activity.

You will be involved in developing staff and media events, sharing those with a wider audience – both internally and externally. You will lead on developing and creating digital material at these events and at other opportunities working with the communications teams. You will evaluate their success to help drive our communications forward.
We are keen to hear from anyone who enjoys working in a busy, fast paced environment with good communication skills and who is confident working with colleagues at all levels. We would be particularly keen to hear from people who also have event management experience.

Key Accountabilities

  • Delivering and implementing communications including on the staff intranet, in our newsletters
  • Developing and delivering digital content including the creation, editing and posting of video and photo content for use internally, externally and on social media
  • Content creation, publication and monitoring and evaluation
  • Maintaining networks, forums and communication channels for instance by monitoring various mail accounts for the teams
  • Act as team liaison and triage intranet queries; monitor enquiries and prepare responses, where necessary in consultation with appropriate colleagues
  • To create and supply data to enable evaluation of the effectiveness of communication techniques that will support continuous improvement
  • Facilitate events including webinars, Town Halls, and internal events
  • Creating and delivering digital material including video and photos at an event or other occasion to optimise our communications
  • To establish and maintain effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • To undertake any other duties as appropriate to the level of the post as determined, including some out of hours work if necessary
The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrable experience of creating effective and engaging video and digital content for a range of online channels and audiences
  • Experience of or willingness to learn web/intranet platforms
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Friendly demeanour and outstanding team working skills
  • Experience in using MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and Premier Pro
  • Confidence and professionalism in personal interactions and able to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues
  • Experience in sourcing and collating information
  • An ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with a wide range of audiences
  • A willingness to work flexibly across a variety of routine and high-level tasks
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to learn new skills and take part in training and development

The successful candidate will be expected to build a strong understanding of the University environment and values, and a flexible approach to work, including a willingness to undertake administrative and operational tasks in the delivery of events and projects

Qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent experience
