The Department of Earth Science and Engineering (ESE) is seeking a Communications Manager to manage and enhance internal and external communications for the Department, and to play a key role in framing the Department’s message. The Department of Earth Science and Engineering at Imperial College London combines teaching and research in Earth Sciences with related Engineering disciplines. It is one of the leading Earth Science departments in the UK with a reputation for excellence in both teaching and research.

Duties and responsibilities

As Communications Manager, you will devote considerable time to the management, development and maintenance of the Departmental website and digital media, with the prime purpose of proactively promoting the work of the Department and its affiliated staff and students. You will also take a lead role in coordinating and managing events designed to promote the Department to key internal and external stakeholders. You will work on a wide range of communications activities aimed at improving the Department’s outreach and knowledge transfer capabilities and build collaborations across the Department.

Essential requirements

This role would suit an ambitious individual with a strong communications background, including content management, editorial news development, events planning and the use of social media in a professional setting. This is a busy and varied post requiring an enthusiastic and highly competent person able to multi-task and to work to deadlines. The post-holder must be proactive in their approach to their duties and be able to work with minimum supervision. The post involves a high level of interaction with staff of all levels as well as students and is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a keen interest in science and engineering.
