The role
As a Communications Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll maximise internal and external communication across the business, building brand reputation.
Day to day, the work you could be involved with is varied and diverse, but you can expect to be getting involved with:
- Delivering an internal comms strategy that ensures our colleagues across the sector know and feel connected to our Babcock purpose, principles and sector strategy.
- Manage a demanding varied workload which may include considerable correspondence and to prioritise accordingly. Responsive to urgent, pressing comms whilst keeping focus on the delivery of regular cyclical activities. Provide strong output on the measurement of the impact of communications. Develop and implement new measurement techniques where improvements can be made especially in reaching frontline teams.
- Provide clear comms planning to support business activities. Interpret and interrogate requests to scope, shape and deliver activities. Plan, manage and provide regular progress reporting multiple projects, including flow down from Group and Sector as required.
- Must be people focussed: Keep our people at the centre of all communications, particularly in respect of the development and communication of employee engagement initiatives and change management programmes.
- Build strong, close relationships with the Nuclear Sector Leadership team, key stakeholders, customers and our employees. This includes guiding and supporting the site-based Communications Business Partner network.
Essential experience of the Communications Manager
- Public relations experience with media and other external stakeholders.
- Clear understanding of the role of internal communications in supporting change and achievement of business objectives.
- Organised, structured and collaborative in getting things done.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to draft and edit copy, originate and refine messages and deploy a range of styles, tools and techniques appropriate to the audience and specific communication objective.
- Engaging written communication skills reflective of the Babcock tone of voice; the ability to adjust style to engage and influence people at all levels and navigate a matrixed organisation.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into clear and easily-understood internal communications.
This role provides hybrid working arrangements with some days in the office and some at home.
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role.
