Introduction

This is a great time to join the House of Commons Communications office, as we move towards launching our new communications strategy.

This role sits in the digital communications function within external communications and works in close partnership with the Office of the Speaker of the House of Commons.

The Communications Office is responsible for the House of Commons communications strategy, as well as overseeing the internal and external communications functions. This role sits in the digital communications function within external communications.

The Role

You will be a creative thinker, who is passionate about explaining the work of the House of Commons, MPs, the UK Parliament and the Speaker of the House of Commons to diverse audiences.

You will act as a point of expertise, advising on social media and digital approaches and content, whilst ensuring at all times that your approach is impartial.

Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Devise an overall plan and strategy for the House of Commons Speaker accounts, and to create engaging and accessible content for the House social media channels and Parliament.uk website.
  • Devise and create engaging and accessible content (including written copy, audio, videos and graphics) for a range of social media channels promoting House of Commons Chamber business, the work of the Speaker and key events taking place in the House of Commons.
  • Work closely with videographer colleagues on briefs to script and storyboard videos both for social media, and internal use. Arrange the filming of these videos.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Experience of managing social media accounts and content in an environment where you are accountable to diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience of creating innovative and accessible multimedia content for a range of social media channels, including targeting a diverse range of audiences and the ability to adapt and design content to appeal to people from a broad range of backgrounds.
  • Excellent copywriting and proofreading skills, with experience of producing accurate and engaging copy for a range of audiences and online channels.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and experience of working inclusively and collaboratively with diverse colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of Parliament and Government, including ability to learn parliamentary procedure, with experience of exercising political awareness and providing impartial information.
  • Knowledge of social media trends and experience of adapting content to take account of emerging social media and digital developments.
