Job Description
Accountable for developing and communicating Canada Post messages to both internal and external audiences by developing thorough and comprehensive communications plans and programs; identifying and suggesting new ways to communicate to specific audiences; developing original approaches for a wide range of communications; handling all aspects of a communications program involving an extensive range of media and facilities; writing a wide variety of texts for different media with a minimum of supervision or guidance; researching and developing articles, speaking notes, statements and background documents often of a highly confidential or sensitive nature; handling tight deadlines in a professional manner; reviewing, editing and approving a complete range of material destined for the diverse audiences within the Corporation; and displaying an awareness of corporate policy and procedures.
Job Responsibilities
Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Officer, Communications Editor.
Coordinate the development of communication programs - from start to finish – by working with other communication groups (e.g. writing services, media relations, social media, video production, linguistic services and graphic design), as well as other key process owners and stakeholders to ensure that all communications are aligned, effective and timely.
Develop and communicate messages regarding the Corporation's business in general and the specific initiatives required to achieve its goals.
Demonstrate expertise in the field of communications by preparing comprehensive communications plans and programs for a variety of audiences.
Identify and develop original approaches to communicating to the diverse audiences within the Corporation and suggest new means of implementing communications activities at all levels.
Job Responsibilities (continued)
Demonstrate the ability to work with senior management.
Research and develop articles, speaking notes, key messages and other documents as required, meeting tight deadlines in a professional manner.
Review, edit and approve a range of material for the diverse publics within the Corporation ensuring high standards in language and quality control.
Display tact, diplomacy and good judgement in handling confidential communications activities.
Qualifications
Education
Completed post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline such as Communications, Public Relations or Marketing OR a combination of equivalent professional experience and training
Experience
1 to 3 years of relevant functional experience
One or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset
Other Candidate Requirements
Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs
Strong communication, analytical, and customer service skills
Project management skills
A proven track record in establishing and maintaining professional relationships with important stakeholder groups.
Bilingualism will be considered a strong asset.
