Job Summary
Under the direction of the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations, the Athletic Strategic Communications Specialist will be responsible for the development of strategic communications and elevating the profile of Cal Poly Athletics. This will include overseeing the Athletic Commuications staff, crafting a strategic and proactive approach to enhance the most visible and important messaging opportunities for Cal Poly Athletics and each of its teams. This position will work closely with the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations on all communications, media inquiries, statements and social media postings in an effort to effectively engage the Mustang fan and donor base, as well as the San Luis Obispo community at large.

Cal Poly's Athletic teams compete in the Big West, Big Sky and Pac 12 conferences. Cal Poly fields twenty-one athletic teams with approximately 550 student athletes.
Key Qualifications
- Develops, implements, and directs comprehensive communications strategies designed to enhance overall campus support of Athletics as well as positively position Cal Poly Athletics to the public.
- Serve as lead communications representative for specified sports.
- Responsible for creating an annual communications strategic plan with goals and objectives. Develops and updates Athletic communications policies and procedures.
Education and Experience
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university and five years of progressively responsible experience in marketing and public relations, or a related Bachelor’s degree and three years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing and public relations, or a related field.
Salary and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Range: $73,000 - $90,000 per year
Classification Range: $52,692 - $95,340 per year
