Communications Specialist
Advent Lutheran Church

Position Type: Immediate opening, Part-time, 15 hours per week
Reports to: Senior Pastor of Advent Lutheran Church
Purpose: To serve the church by providing broad-based communications assistance to the Senior Pastor and by supporting the internal and external church communications functions.
Job Duties
- Develop and implement the ongoing comprehensive communications strategy for the church across all media types. Types include print media, website, mobile, social media, video production and some graphic design, plus working with vendors
- Edit/Proofread all external facing content including regular and special email messages, advertisements, news releases and online content
- Coordinate photography services as needed and maintain photo and media library
- Maintain, coordinate and update the congregation’s website
- Prepare an annual communication report, plus reports or updates on special projects as requested. Participate in a weekly staff meeting via Zoom.
- Serve as a primary church contact for all communications, both internally and externally
- Actively solicit feedback from the other groups within the church in an effort to constantly improve the communications processes
- Engage with the communication committee
- Support staff and church committees with ongoing and special communications strategies and implementation
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Great written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in the use of MS Office
- Experience managing a website through a third party website building and management program
- Experience with social media tools, including but not limited to Constant Contact, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter
- Familiarity with search engine ranking and optimization tools and strategies
- Experience with graphic design software such as Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign
- Analytical and critical thinking skills
- Supportive of the mission of Advent Lutheran Church
- A passion for communicating God's Word in new and creative ways that lead to a response
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, energetic, and highly organized
- Experience in a non-profit organization is a plus
- Written Spanish language skill is a plus
- Able to maintain confidentiality and is trustworthy in all matters

Salary is commensurate with experience. Hours are flexible and this may be a remote work position.
