Job description
Apply as soon as you can. Applications shut on Monday 20 February, but it may be earlier if we receive enough relevant applications.
Interview will be Tuesday 21 February at 7-8pm on Zoom.
Pay is £10.10 per hour and you'd be eligible for paid holiday.
Apply by submitting your CV and just 1 or 2 sentences answering these 2 questions:
1) Why would you like to be a Communications Assistant for We Speak?
2) Do you have any experience that you think could be useful for this role?
The opportunity is suitable for university students, recent graduates, school-leavers, or anyone else with an experience and an interest in writing.
You don't have to have any specific writing experience, but it would help if you have had practice writing, for example for essays at university (eg English Literature, History etc)
We will review applications and offer interviews as they come in.
Availability
Work will start from Wednesday 22 February.
Who are we?
We Speak is a social enterprise to transform the speaking confidence of students from under-represented backgrounds.
What's our aim?
Our aim is to help give everybody a voice, not just the people who already feel confident about speaking. We work with young people to help them feel confident about their own voice and how to use it for life and employment opportunities.
What do we do?
We run a 4-week online programme throughout the year where students who lack speaking confidence are supported by Facilitators and corporate mentors to share their thoughts and ideas in any situation. We work with university students and sixth form students. All of our programmes take place during live interactive workshops online via Zoom.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for people to help us with our written communications at We Speak. We'd like you to write in a clear, friendly and informal way.
We don't have any preconcieved ideas about who you are. You might be a university student, recent graduate, school-leaver or someone with experience or an interest in writing.
No qualifications or specific experience is needed.
Duties could include writing:
- Emails to students who are participating in the programme, including feedback from their mentors
- Impact reports using templates
- Website content (for example, case studies for the team page www.wespeak.co/team)
- LinkedIn posts about the programme and participants
Payment / hours
Communication Assistants will be engaged by We Speak on Worker Agreements with paid annual leave and flexible hours. We run programmes 3-4 times per year usually during school and university term time, and there is a higher concentration of work available around these times.
Interviews
The interview will be informal and relaxed, and will take place in a small group. We'll be doing some practical activities that a We Speak Communications Assistant does behind the scenes. It's an opportunity to get to know you better, and for you to see what sort of things you might do in the role. We may send you some
