Scottish Gymnastics is the governing body responsible for all levels of gymnastics activity in Scotland. We are a close-knit team whose purpose is to make our sport enjoyable, safe, and open to everyone. We want a communications and marketing officer to join our enthusiastic team who will bring a range of skills to help us celebrate the positive impact of gymnastics on people and communities. Through visual and written content, you will help us celebrate our members, champion our sport, and engage our audiences. You will support our staff teams in creating resources and courses, telling people about the opportunities, support and learning we offer, and encouraging participation in different roles at every level.
If you are creative, enthusiastic and like variety, this could be the role for you. You’ll be working with all aspects of our busy sport and as happy filming and editing videos or creating graphics and visual content, as you are writing stories and marketing copy.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Increase the profile of Scottish Gymnastics and promote our activities, our members, and the sport in Scotland
- Support the communications and marketing manager in the development and execution of communications plans
- Lead on production of video and graphics
- Create written and visual content for all digital platforms
- Provide communications and marketing support for Scottish Gymnastics departmental teams
Key Objectives:
- Co-manage the delivery of digital communications with our current communications and marketing officer
- Lead on the creation of video content – filming, editing, and publishing – for resources to support all teams’ projects and for social media
- Lead on the creation of graphics and infographics, designing templates for colleagues’ communications, courses, and resources, and for event programmes and championships branding
- Co-develop and implement social media plan in line with communications plan
- Co-ordinate content to regularly update social media and engage with audiences
- Create written and visual content including news articles, features, marketing campaigns and promotions, actively seeking stories and images from staff and members including clubs, coaches, judges, gymnasts, team managers, and volunteers, and finding your own news sources
- Help create and develop e-communications: sourcing content, liaising with partners for adverts, and ensuring delivery to different audiences
- Co-manage the website by creating new and updating older content, posting job vacancies, and supporting colleagues to update pages
- Co-manage the online shop to ensure smooth customer journey for ticket and merchandise sales, liaising with colleagues and external partners
- Support the delivery of communications and marketing
- Support the communications and marketing manager to ensure Scottish Gymnastics is leading rather than following others with our output and effective communication which delivers for our organisation, colleagues, members, and key stakeholders
- Support the communications and marketing manager in implementing communications framework and communications plan in line with our strategic aims
- Support on campaigns and PR activity to promote Scottish Gymnastics vision, purpose, and values
- Support the development and creation of printed materials, publications, and marketing collateral such as annual report, annual awards, and branding, through copywriting, layout, advertising, working with external designer and printer where appropriate
- Work with the communications and marketing manager to provide communications and marketing support for all departments, focussing on digital content creation and promotion of projects and resources
- Liaise with partners to devise competitions and promote merchandise
- Support internal communications
- Support on media enquiries, event media management and accreditation
- Assist with administrative tasks such as filing, compiling reports, creating presentations for meetings, and other duties to support the communications department, head of operations and corporate functions
- Increase the profile of Scottish Gymnastics, its members, and the sport
- Work closely with our participation team to promote gymnastics participation in clubs and non-competitive events such as Gymfest, to develop customer experience, increase participation and attendance, champion volunteers and engage audiences
- Work closely with our club services and education teams to promote and share the support, resources and learning we offer to clubs, coaches and judges, and champion good practice
- Work closely with our safeguarding team to promote and share the support, resources and learning we offer members and parents, and champion good practice
- Build experience of performance gymnastics and competitive events, attending and supporting as required for videography and general marketing.
- Support the marketing of the Scottish Gymnastics Awards with the creation and delivery of video, presentation slides and social media content during the nomination process, ticket sales and throughout the event
- Seek interest from external media in stories you have sourced
- Manage, monitor, and develop digital communications
- Maintain photograph, video, and audio library
- Help manage social media sites, website, e-communications, and marketing platform
- Help maintain up-to-date marketing contacts lists, and develop and promote e-comms to grow engagement
- Evaluate the effectiveness of social media content, and evolve messaging to increase engagement levels
- Assist in providing regular digital analytics and evaluation reports
- Monitor trends in social media identifying new technologies, platforms, and methods to enhance our communications and customer engagement
- Help develop effective communication solutions between staff and key stakeholders
Criteria / Attributes
Qualifications
- Higher diploma or degree in media/digital media, marketing, communications, or similar field and/or relevant work experience
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to convey messages successfully through a variety of different media
- Ability to be creative in designing content with a good eye for using images from photo library
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to write factual news reports, features and marketing materials
- Ability to understand different audiences and create engaging content, evaluating effectiveness, and adapting approach if necessary
- Ability to influence and advise on communications content designed for digital media
- Proven ability to be proactive and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to prioritise workload by understanding deadlines and managing time effectively
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to relate well to all levels of staff
- Well-developed analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to develop strong, effective working relationships with key partners
- Excellent IT skills
- Highly developed administration skills
Knowledge and experience
- Experience of supporting the delivery of a digital communications plan
- Track record of leading and sustaining partnership working
- Experience of brand management and improving the customer experience
- Proven knowledge of creative design programmes
- Knowledge of content management system
- Knowledge of SEO and accessibility
- Knowledge and experience of using video and DSLR cameras
