Job summary
Building a strong Commercial Function in Government, and with it the right commercial capability, is at the heart of a far-reaching programme of Civil Service reform.

This role will sit within the GCO, but based in our Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office commercial team delivering departmental objectives.
Job description
FCDO is seeking a curiosity-driven, systems and data-minded commercial professional.
This role will involve the following:
- Identifying and support delivery of enhancements and improvements to the configuration of Commercial systems, processes, and tools.
- Supporting the development and implementation of the Commercial systems strategy and roadmap.
- Developing, building, and sustaining relationships with Commercial, Finance and Digital stakeholders inside and outside the FCDO.
- Driving the development of Commercial intelligence, converting contract, spend and pipeline data into actionable insights, enabling the development of robust Commercial category strategies.
- Taking a leadership position in the Operations & Performance team reporting to the Head of Commercial Systems & Analysis and will lead a team to drive the activities referenced above.

Develop and implement the commercial systems and data strategy;

Lead a team to maintain and improve the systems, tools, and data that are used by the Commercial team;

Represent Commercial at various cross-Government forums maintaining knowledge of best practice in use of technology across government;

Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives (such as system amalgamation, process automation and integration);

Manage input from stakeholders to identify improvement opportunities;

Champion the benefits of commercial MI, improving data quality, building capability across FCDO to utilise commercial information to make effective decisions;

Where system functionality issues are identified, take the lead with Finance Operations and IT Support teams to ensure system solutions are delivered in a timely manner;

Provide effective governance of Commercial systems reporting regularly to senior stakeholders and users; and
- Contract management of suppliers and acting as the intelligent client for procurement of new tools and systems.
Technical skills
We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:
- Manages Complexity: – Able to manage various systems, tools & data sources, ensuring compliance with various Central Government policies. Able to lead development of actionable intelligence relating to commercial opportunities, risks, and trends
- Commercial Focus: - Champion the benefits of commercial intelligence, improving data quality, and building capability across FCDO to utilise commercial information to make effective decisions.
- Builds Relationships: - Experience in project management and delivery, leading teams, effective stakeholder engagement and of working to deadlines and meeting targets.
- Coaching Manager: Lead, manage, motivate and co-ordinate x-functional teams, often with no direct authority over key stakeholders/team members. Promotes a supportive culture that values positive change and diversity.

Your application will be reviewed by a panel and should you be successful at sift we will invite you to attend a Virtual commercial Assessment and Development Centre (VADC). The panel will review results of the VADC and determine which candidates will go through to a subsequent final panel interview. Please note: Only candidates that achieve an A grade at ADC will be invited to interview for this role.
