Working for OVO Energy Solutions, you will manage, lead and develop the Commercial team across all business projects, ranging from Moray to Cornwall, Argyll & Bute to Kent. The Energy Solutions office is located Bristol, London, Glasgow, but with projects across the country, travel and remote working will be required.


This role in a nutshell:

As part of the Energy Solutions senior management team, you will manage, lead and continue to develop a successful commercial team working on multi-million pound programmes across the retrofit energy efficiency markets; from External Wall Insulation to Renewable or low carbon technology to whole house retrofit.

You will lead the commercial team through project feasibility, design, procurement, programme implementation to contract delivery and close-down. Financial control, risk management, programme delivery and people leadership are at the heart of every step and so, being able to multitask is an everyday essential requirement.

Accountable for the successful delivery of appropriate departmental KPIs and objectives, including achieving target profit and margin levels on a monthly and yearly basis. Establishing, managing, maintaining and enhancing the departmental supply chain to meet the needs of the business and customers whilst delivering best value for money and profitability to the business.

You will also help develop and procure new business opportunities within the energy efficiency retrofit markets; working alongside the business development team to ensure Government initiatives are maximised to help facilitate the successful delivery of the Energy Company Obligation and wider group objectives.

The role also requires close working relationships with other functions across the business area to ensure project deadlines are met, operational activity has QS support and financial obligations are upheld. As part of this purpose you will ensure the wider drive of Plan Zero is fully embraced with company brand, ethics and members at the heart of everything you do.


Your key outcomes will be:

  • Deliver projects and contracts against agreed timescales whilst managing approved budget authorisations.
  • Management of all Commercial functions; Estimating, Procurement, Quantity Surveying, Cost and Risk Management and Financial control
  • Development of relationships with main suppliers/contractors and liaise with points of contact on a projects
  • Work with Procurement Officers (Strategic and Shared Service Centre) to ensure the best approach is taken in sourcing goods, works or services; including cost reduction analysis
  • Compile, negotiate and award Call Off Contracts in accordance with terms and provisions of Agreements. Managing the interface with suppliers/contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure value for money and appropriate commercial controls are embedded in all contracts.
  • Strategic development and any subsequent implementation of business change aligned to achieving Plan Zero
  • Manage all post contract commercial matters including negotiating/agreeing compensation events and ensure that the core principles of the Commercial Manual are being implemented.

Within your first 6 months month you'll:

  • Have embedded with all key processes, decision points and business stakeholders
  • Be comfortable explaining all OVO ES has to offer (incl our mission and benefits)
  • Be known in your business area and by key collaborators as the recruiter for the job
  • Have met with senior external stakeholders

You'll be a successful Commercial Manager here at OVO if you ideally have…

  • Strong Leadership skill with Commercial management experience; particularly the management and leadership of professional services such as Quantity Surveyors, Procurement, Legal services
  • In-depth knowledge of the Energy Efficiency, Renewables and/or Construction markets and its current events
  • Strong communication and IT fluency
  • The ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail

We'll pay you between £58,480 and £70,000, depending on your specific skills and experience. If your expectations are a little different, have a chat with us!
