A rotational graduate scheme

Whilst on the graduate programme, you will rotate across aminimum of three departments within the commercial function. Depending on therole, these placements will last from between 3 and 12 months.

The OperationalTrading Desk is responsible for trading, optimising and dispatching ourgas-fired power stations. Working a 24/7 shift pattern, the team delivercritical power generation supporting National Grid balance supply and demand aswell as ancillary services to provide system stability. The forward tradingdesk is responsible for hedging the forward financial exposures of the InterGenassets in the power, gas and carbon markets. Rotations through the Trading teamwill allow you to gain a real-life understanding of how to optimise generationassets as well as practical experience of dispatching these assets and tradingin commodity markets.

Within the Tradingdepartment a key, function of data gathering, review and evaluation of theprompt and forward trading desks will provide accurate and timely informationto support trading strategies. Working alongside a data scientist and our BIteam to source data and build models, this role is integral to the success ofthe trading team.

The Commercialteam manage our existing long-term contracts in addition to origination of newopportunities to underpin the profitability of our generation assets. Industry Regulation sits alongside thecommercial team responsibilities and requires getting to the heart ofregulatory changes across electricity and gas charging areas as well as widercommercial engagement with external stakeholders. You may be asked to supportresponses to regulatory changes that will affect the operational business aswell as managing external communications with regulators, counterparties,government and other public organisations. This rotation will be wide rangingin experience and provide you with varied commercial experience and knowledgeof how the UK power and gas markets work and where they are headed.

Other operational based placements may be offered depending on theskills and experience of the successful candidates.

Who we are looking for?


We arelooking for two inquisitive people with the enthusiasm to by examine,investigate and review data, to learn about the energy industry and an abilityto work within a dynamic setting. You must be able to commit to a shift patternfor up to 12 months as part of the rotation supporting the 24/7 shift tradingdesk. This placement will also require successful candidates to be based in theEdinburgh office, rather than remotely. This placement also comes with thebenefit of periods off between shifts allowing a unique opportunity to balancelearning and life balance.

Thesuccessful candidates will be an assured, diligent choice maker whodemonstrates excellent problem solving skills and enthusiasm to explore newopportunities. Working within a small organisation like InterGen means exposureto a wide variety of areas so you should be adaptable and open to exploringdifferent topics.

Coding/developmentexperience may be advantageous but not essential. All candidates will be expected to complete arotation on the shift-trading desk but other placements can be tailored towardsthe successful candidates expertise and interests e.g. this may be IT and BI orCommercial, Regulatory or Trading.

Requirements


We arelooking for graduates who are educated to degree level, preferably in ascientific or numerical subject but as long as you can demonstrate the rightapproach and problem solving abilities, we will consider applicants with otherrelevant experience and degree backgrounds.
