Overview of the role


This role will report directly to the CFO Europe with a strong dotted line to the Managing Director (MD). Managing and developing a management accountant, whilst working closely with outsourced transactional services, this is a hands-on but varied role where you can gain all round experience in managing a finance department. The role will oversee the transactional accounting, management accounts, forecasting, budgeting, cashflow forecasting and KPIs.


This is an autonomous role working within a fast-growing SME which is primed for growth both organically and through acquisition. The role will form part of an experienced central European finance team responsible for several business units. The role will also be part of the senior management team within one of the largest business units in the Group.


The CFM will act as financial consultant to the MD, supporting the implementation of their business strategy through analysis and interpretation of business results, and ensuring consistent, accurate and timely management information.


They will support the key decision making processes, producing relevant information, providing analysis of different scenarios, challenging the assumptions and highlighting the risks and opportunities of the business plan. They will also support other business leaders in providing financial support to their plans.


Key tasks and responsibilities


  • Managing and developing the Management Accountant
  • Monthly management accounts delivery including balance sheet reconciliations
  • Monthly reporting to Group
  • Maintain coding protocols for accurate reporting
  • Work with transactional services to ensure smooth processing of sales and purchases
  • Review and approve payment runs
  • Preparation and delivery of monthly and quarterly forecasting including presentations
  • Monthly management information and forecasting
  • Preparation and delivery of any longer term financial plans (e.g. 3 year plan)
  • Lead the annual budget process
  • Staff remuneration review, posting and analysis. Assist in the cost management of this key expenditure
  • Provide support and analysis for the preparation and monitoring of bonus and commission schemes for the relevant direct staff within the division
  • Provide support and analysis for any potential acquisitions or disposals
  • Provide analysis and advice to support the strategy of delivering top-line sales growth and effective pricing strategies
  • Appraise and advise on bottom-line operational effectiveness
  • Develop and monitor both financial and non-financial KPI’s
  • Maintain and develop all financial models in excel

Key competencies


  • It is required that the individual can demonstrate an expertise in P&L management, budget development, clear and accurate financial reporting and underlying core skills in general accounting controls
  • Ideally ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified
  • Experience in managing and developing a small team
  • Ideally experienced in private equity and/or media background
  • Strong business acumen and understanding
  • Strategic awareness
  • Service-oriented personality
  • Strong influencing skills (inform/support/influence/challenge/direct)
  • Strong communication skills (ability to interpret financial information to non-finance people)
  • Ability to build strong relationships
