The core Mainland Europe businesses have combined revenues of approximately €1bn and employing over 12,000 colleagues.

This role offers flexibility on a base location. The role can reside in either the UK at our Sunderland or London office, or across Mainland Europe.

About the role

The role of Commercial Analyst for Arriva Mainland Europe reports to the Commercial Finance Manager and will provide effective validation of financial assumptions of commercial projects, in order to ensure robust proposals with balanced risk and opportunities that will enable further growth of our business.

The Commercial Analyst will also provide guidance and support to country commercial teams on financial modelling of tender projects, as well as providing support to the Business Unit Commercial team and Business Unit leadership to defend existing contracts successfully and to drive further growth.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Organize timetable of work on tender projects to ensure timely submission of all internal and external deliverables, to the required quality.
  • Assure projects’ compliance with Group Tender Approval Process (TAP) and other Governance guidelines.
  • Provide support to the local teams with financial modelling of the tender projects and proactively address any questions and challenges the local teams may face during financial modelling in the Group Tender Model (GTM) and preparation of TAP deliverables.
  • Review & challenge financial assumptions in the proposed business case with local teams, to ensure robust bids with fully validated financial evaluation and balanced risk/opportunity profile.
  • Prepare proposed recommendation for BU Commercial Finance Manager, Head of Commercial, FD and MD.
  • Monitor continuously the progress of the work on tender projects in line with the agreed plan.
  • Cooperate closely with ME Commercial team members (Commercial Finance Manager, Commercial Operations Manager, Head of Commercial and others) to ensure all considerations are correctly reflected in the financial model and TAP documentation.
  • Cooperate closely with other internal stakeholders and business partners, especially ME Finance team (KPIs validation, monitoring of contract wins and losses, contract performance), but also Group Commercial, Group Tax, Arriva Treasury, Asset Management and other teams.
  • Maintain, in conjunction with country teams and ME Commercial team, an iterative pipeline of growth opportunities in line with the Group / Divisional strategy, and deliver strategic pipeline analysis to BU leadership and other internal stakeholders.
  • Deliver due diligence and financial modelling support for M&A projects.
  • Develop continuous improvement in commercial financial modelling and related analytics, enable commercial capability building across the BU commercial community.
About you

  • You are qualified to at least Graduate Level, in a relatable subject.
  • You can demonstrate experience in a similar role, and credibility in finance and financial modelling
  • You have strong analytical skills, ability to draw conclusions from data rapidly and accurately, focusing on commerciality.
  • The ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships will come naturally to you, but you can also constructively challenge with confidence to effect positive change.
  • You take ownership of business critical tasks and processes, learn with agility and are comfortable with problem solving and ambiguity.
  • You have strong financial literacy and numeracy skills, as well as presentation skills, including Excel and PowerPoint.
