What you'll be doing:You'll work as part of the property team based on Brownsea Island and will be responsible for looking after the collections. Your main responsibility will be ensuring that all collection objects are recorded on the Collections Management System (CMS). This will involve auditing the existing collections, adding missing items to the database, and improving the information on existing entries. This will require research and organising research into individual items to ascertain their origin, date, ownership status and history of treatment. Where necessary, you will also be required to photograph and label items. You’ll have a methodical approach and will be devising and keeping up-to-date an accessible worksheet of outstanding tasks and queries.
Your work will complement and assist the Property Team, Conservator and Cultural Heritage Curator with decision-making about the future of the collections. You will be required to work independently as the only collections-based role on Brownsea, but you will be supported by the regional Conservator and Cultural Heritage Curator and will have opportunities to connect with the collections and house teams at other properties.

- Experience in using a collections inventory database
- Experience of working with and handling museum collections
- Good project management and planning skills with an excellent eye for detail
- Hard working and a committed team player
- Excellent people skills and can build strong relationships internally and externally
- Able to work autonomously
- Strong IT skills and can use Microsoft Office as well as web and social media applications
