Job description
Conscientious, courteous, timeous, reliable and polite, you'll work as part of a team of approximately 4/5 gap year and 3/4 final year school students in a friendly west end coffee shop preparing coffees, hot sandwiches and soups for customers.
You'll need to cope with busy periods (from time to time) and help keep the shop clean in quiet periods. Attention to detail is important as well as an ability to take orders correctly and prepare food and drinks in an efficient and timely manner.
We are open: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (11am to 5pm) so shifts are available on those days, and average from 3 to a maximum of 7/8 hours, although most shifts tend to be 3/5 hours (once you are comfortable working with us and fully trained up-to-speed). Saturday and Sundays are our busiest days so availability to work then is preferred as well as also being able to work Thursdays and Fridays. There are normally 4 to 5 shifts available per day with the first shift starting at 9.30am.
There is a baking and cleaning shift on Wednesday from 1.30pm to 4.30pm (when we are closed). This shift is available once you are fully comfortable with working the regular shop shifts of Thurs to Sun.
Shifts are scheduled online weekly in advance using google sheets. We bake our own cakes and scones, so an interest in baking is welcomed. Training in baking is given.
A chat group exists for picking up extra cover shifts if desired. Experience is helpful but not essential. Coffee, till and customer service training is given on a one-on-one basis and consists of 4 one hour evening training sessions from 5.30-6.30pm (Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun) in the week you first start. Training is paid. Once your training is completed you'll work short lunchtime shifts of 2/2.5 hours (12 until 2/2.30) with other experienced staff members until you are ready to work longer shifts.
The position would suit person looking for part-time work from Thursday to Sunday of approx 15-20 hrs per week. Immediate start with training is available.
