Job description
Responsible for the machining and inspection of primarily one-off engineering components to correct standards and specifications, a lead hand with vast amounts of experience in manufacturing. Seeing into production scheduler.
Main Responsibilities- Receiving and interpreting engineering drawings and sketches to manufacture engineering components
- Writing CNC machining programs, ideally grinding, milling and turning experience desirable
- Manufacture and inspection of high end, primarily one-off engineering components
- Training and mentoring of apprentices and less skilled members of staff
- Development of new machine tools and machining techniques- this stems from large investment within the company and our manufacturing facility
- Maintain high area standards and seek to improve using knowledge of 5S, or similar strategies.
- Deliver clear results and guidance to CT project leaders
- Provide training to CT staff on equipment and test methods
- Support line management to maintain records, office, and lab facilities and to maintain high standards for health and safety throughout the site
- Be able to actively input into a group and offer suggestions or solutions technically
- At times having to work along side external contractors to rectify problems, proactively and safely
- Contacting suppliers for replacement parts for equipment, obtaining quotes etc
- Contacting equipment providers and partners within the group to allow for quicker diagnosis of issues
Required Experience
- Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship, City and Guilds or NVQ level 3
- CNC or manual grinding experience (must be universal or similar if manual) ideally, or, CNC milling/turning with some grinding experience for development
- Experience working within a manufacturing development environment
- Use of computer (MS Word/Excel)
- Good verbal and written communication
- Good problem-solving ability with real a ‘can do’ attitude
Desirable Experience
- HNC or equivalent
- Delcam programming
- 5 axis/multi axis machining
- Experience within a prototype environment/low volume, high tolerance
