Communications and Marketing Officer (Fostering)

Job description

Full Time / 37 hours Per Week / Fixed Term 24 Months

Are you looking for a rewarding career in a dynamic, creative, and flexible environment whilst transforming children’s lives in Leicester?

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced communications and marketing officer to make a difference to a child’s life by delivering and managing our foster carer recruitment campaign. We need someone with the talent and skills to attract potential foster carers in Leicester and promote the positive impact fostering can have on children and young people.

Our team uses a campaign-based approach, underpinned by the Government Communications Service (GCS) principles, to everything we do. We believe the most effective communications are simple, evidence-based communications that reach the right people at the right time with the right message.

This post is full time Monday to Thursday between 8:30am-5:00pm Monday and Friday 8:30am-4.30pm based in City Hall. However, the council offers a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and on-site giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work, subject to business needs. Therefore, the expectation is that you will spend a minimum of 60% of your working time based at City Hall. At times, you will be expected to visit locations around the city and county to support campaign activities and events.

What you’ll be doing

As part of the corporate communications and marketing team, you’ll report to a senior communications and marketing officer with work objectives agreed with the fostering service senior management team. You’ll help to establish a strong campaign identity with key messages and content to effectively engage our target audiences ,

You’ll manage the day to day delivery of an effective and multi-channel communications and engagement plan including the development of external and internal communications, building confidence in the council amongst senior management, residents, and wider key stakeholders.

As well as creating accessible communications that includes accurate, timely content for use across both digital channels and printed materials, including updating website content, social media posts, intranet, newsletters, and other marketing collateral. You’ll deliver consistent messages that support our objectives in a highly professional manner engaging internal and external audiences, which brings together stakeholders to ensure a joined-up approach. It is a busy and varied role which requires working collaboratively with the fostering service and internal stakeholders as well as external partners and organisations. Through clear and precise planning, you'll deliver the work to agreed time, budget and quality requirements producing content and materials for different audiences and platforms. You’ll be supported by an excellent team who work together and make work enjoyable.

What you’ll need

In this role you'll need to be a creative thinker with experience in communications, marketing, or campaign planning and delivery across a range of both traditional channels and digital marketing. You’ll be expected to develop a strong understanding of our audiences and channels so that you can communicate and engage them meaningfully.

You'll need to be confident in working with people at all levels, using your knowledge to provide advice and guidance to meet the required campaign outcomes and support the fostering team to communicate effectively.

You’ll have strong copywriting skills with an ability to adapt communication styles to suit the audience. Above all, you’re a fast learner seeking to use your talent and experience in helping the council and foster care services achieve success.

What we can offer you

As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You’ll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working.
