Primary Eyecare Services (PES) is an established provider of high-quality extended eye care services (those beyond sight testing) utilising a large network of optical practice subcontractors across England (~2500). PES currently holds and manages contracts on behalf of the primary eye care network, spanning more than 28 integrated care systems and delivering over 450,000 episodes of patient care each year with a total annual turnover of ~£25+million. PES is a not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee. This sees the majority of generated income pass through to frontline eye care services in optical practices.

Primary Eyecare Services (PES) is a CQC Registered provider also delivering NHS urgent eyecare telemedicine and NHS referral management services through its Contact Centre located in Ancoats, Manchester.

Role Purpose:

Primary Eyecare Services is looking for enthusiastic and clinically focused optometrists to join its central clinical team. The role will include providing telemedicine, referral triage and clinical support to the central hub team.

Responsibilities:

  • As a telemedicine optometrist your primary duty will be to communicate with and treat patients via telemedicine. You will use your expertise to manage patients presenting to CUES with a variety of conditions.
  • You will be responsible for managing your own allocated clinic, using excellent time management skills to run your clinic efficiently.
  • You will be required to communicate effectively with patients, other clinicians,and team members, always upholding professional standards.
  • You may be required to use your clinical skills in referral triage. This will require you to review referrals from optometrists, GPs, and other primary care routes, allocating them to the most appropriate service.
  • As a qualified optometrist you will provide clinical support to the hub administrative team where required.
  • Working alongside the operations and clinical leads to identify areas for improvements in service delivery.

Personal Specification:

  • GOC Registered Optometrist
  • Evidence of CPD in accordance with GOC regulations.
  • Completion of the WOPEC MECS level 1&2
  • IP qualification registered with the GOC (Desirable not essential)
  • Experience in delivering community optometry services eg CUES
  • Demonstrable experience of managing patients via telemedicine.
  • Ability to follow local guidelines in the management of patients.
  • Ability to implement and support new initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to cope effectively under pressure whilst delivering results
  • Is confident in clinical decision making
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively as a team member assisting colleagues to deliver objectives.
  • Ability to express information in a clear, concise and understandable way both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work in a time-efficient manner
  • Caring and empathetic attitude to patients
  • Act in ways that support equality and promote diversity
  • Flexibility in availability to attend meetings and able to travel as required

The role will be predominantly home based but there is a requirement for you to attend the PES Head Office, in Manchester, M4 6LN for 2 full days 9am-5pm; for your induction. For applicants living outside a 50-mile radius of Greater Manchester, overnight accommodation and expenses will be covered.

The role requires a Saturday to be worked in accordance with a shift rota notified to you 3 months in advance (e.g. approx. 1 in 8).
