About us

The UCL Huntington’s Disease (HD) Centre, based in the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease, is a world-leading focus of research and clinical care in HD. Current research focuses on identifying the best combination of outcome measures (biomarkers) to assess disease onset and progression, and an increasing number of therapies are now being trialled, offering hope to hundreds of affected patients and families.

Professor Wild leads multiple international studies to evaluate biomarkers and pathways of relevance to HD that will enable the development of new treatments. This includes HDClarity, an ongoing study that generates high quality samples of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord and may provide information about the brain and nervous system that is impossible to obtain in any way.

About the role

The primary purpose of the Clinical Research Fellow is to act as the Study Physician for the multi-site HDClarity study; this role is central to the good conduct of the HDClarity study and involves carrying out training of clinical sites, leading site initiation visits, helping site personnel to resolve clinical and technical issues, undertaking analyses, and writing up study-wide research findings. The secondary purpose is patient-facing clinical research activity, as both lead physician for the UCL HDClarity clinical site and one of a team of physicians implementing the HD clinical trial programme.

The role provides a comprehensive grounding in cutting-edge neurodegeneration research, encompassing laboratory, clinical trial, and multisite leadership elements. You’ll have the opportunity to undertake an independent programme of laboratory biomarker research and will be supported in undertaking a higher research degree; you will also have the opportunity to participate in the award-winning NHNN HD clinic, as well as other general and specialist neurology clinics of your choosing, to ensure broad clinical training.

An honorary contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.

The role is available immediately and funded by CHDI Foundation, Inc. until 30 April 2025 in the first instance.

This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 60% on site.

If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the Institute of Neurology HR Team ([email protected]).
