Job description
Provides a specialist digital clinical photography service as part of the patient care programme. Responsible for taking consent where necessary from patients and explains issues surrounding use of their confidential images. Responsible for photographing patients in studio and other locations such as wards, operating theatres or isolation wards etc. for all medical and surgical specialities.
Assesses the best way of demonstrating a clinical condition by optimal use of camera and lighting techniques. Undertakes other specialist techniques as required as part of standardised serial photography for controlled trials, and other research and development based activity. Ensures accuracy of clinical visual material by precise digital file input and colour management standards. Undertakes specialist ophthalmic photographic work which may include colour fundus, OCT, retinal angiography, slit lamp, topography and autofluorescence photography.
Production of computer graphics for teaching, publication and exhibition in the form of leaflets, brochures and posters. Using computer hardware and specialist graphic design, desk-top publishing, digital file manipulation, web design and multimedia file conversion software systems. Carries out general digital photography for educational, promotional or display use including public relations photography, portraiture, architectural and commercial photography. Includes photography of equipment, techniques and working practices.
Digital video photography for the recording of patient conditions and for educational use. Carries out digital video editing and produces and converts multimedia clips for use in educational presentations on CD and/or DVD. Works to standard operating procedures and adheres to strict policies, both general Trust wide policies and those relating particularly to clinical photography including consent to clinical photography. Responsible for maintaining quality working systems.
Participates in and contributes to departmental research projects. Consults and advises users of the service to ensure requests are understood, costed and undertaken to the highest possible standard. Maintains and updates digital database of photographic clinical image files. Responsible for accurate data entry and archiving of all departmental material to exact standards in order to maintain authenticity of material which may later be used for legal proceedings.
Ensure confidential material is stored correctly and securely at all times. Assesses and undertakes own workload of patients/clients and maintains associated records. Carries out other miscellaneous duties including photo-finishing (binding and encapsulation of material for clinical, educational and display usage), production of staff identity cards, handling of cash from income-generation schemes and maintaining accurate records of all cash transactions. Carry out any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role and delegated or requested by their manager, as the needs of the service require.
