Job description

Southampton Children's Hospital (SCH) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced paediatric haematology-oncology nurse to join our team of clinical nurse specialists. You will have the opportunity to develop specialist clinical skills within paediatric malignant haematology and palliative care.

Southampton is one of 21 Principle Treatment Centre's (PTC) in the UK providing advancing cancer treatments for CYP with malignant conditions, who live in the Wessex region. Our MASCC accredited oncology unit offers 12 acute beds and 3 day case beds.

As a core member of the paediatric oncology multidisciplinary team, you will provide effective leadership, information, clinical advice and support to children and their families with a haematological malignancy. You will provide holistic care from diagnosis, throughout treatment, into long term follow up and during palliative and end of life care, if required.

Southampton Children’s hospital is a 115 bedded hospital catering for both local and regional children from the Wessex Region including the Channel Isles. Southampton’s Children’s Hospital is a Major Paediatric Trauma Centre in the region.

The children’s hospital provides specialist intensive and high dependency care, regional cardiac, neurological and neurosurgery, orthopaedic, urology, general, renal and ear nose and throat surgery and is the regional oncology centre. The children's hospital has a dedicated children’s emergency department, day surgical / medical unit, children’s outpatients and Bursledon House which is a specialist unit treating a range of conditions. Southampton Children’s Hospital is a centre for paediatric research projects.

Within the site also sits our tertiary level 3 medical and surgical neonatal unit.

Our specialist paediatric consultants, nurses and wider healthcare teams offer a wide range of diagnosis, treatment and support facilities for children and their parents.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Our clinical nurse specialists will demonstrate a high level of expertise and skills in the specialist area of paediatric malignant haematology and palliative care. As a clinical nurse specialist, you will have a key role in the management of these CYP, in the acute setting and in the community both within Southampton and regionally.

There are five major component areas of practice – clinical practice, teaching, consulting, involvement in research and clinical audit activity within own specialist area. The post holder will work closely with clinical team, paediatric oncology CNS team and Lead Nurse in developing the Paediatric Oncology & Haematology service.
