CLINICAL FELLOWS IN NEUROSURGERY (3 POSTS)

Applications are welcome for the above fixed term (12 months), full time (40 hours per week) post based in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences (DCN) at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
You will work as part of our broader neurosciences team, in a new purpose-built hospital, serving a population of approximately 1.8 million people in south-east Scotland. A team of 12 neurosurgical consultants provide almost all neurosurgical subspecialties.
Neurosurgery CDFs will manage neurosurgical patients on the ward. You will also have opportunities to assist in theatre and develop surgical skills, to attend sub-specialty MDTs, and to assist in the outpatient department.
A one-year clinical development fellow post in neurosurgery. This post is designed for junior doctors interested in becoming neurosurgeons or interested in working in an allied specialty (e.g. interventional neuroradiology, spinal surgery, or an allied surgical specialty).
Three posts are available annually, starting on the first Wednesday in August each year. The post is ideally suited to a post-Foundation doctor looking to improve their knowledge and skills to enhance their competitiveness for neurosurgery national selection. However, skills learnt will translate across specialties.
The fellow will be encouraged to become involved in research, audit, and QI projects and will be mentored by consultants and neurosurgical trainees.
The fellow will learn a range of clinical skills including lumbar puncture, shunt valve modulation, management of external CSF drainage systems, and have opportunities to assist in theatre and learn basic neurosurgical procedures. These posts so not have educational approval educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
