CLINICAL CODER / MEDICAL SUMMARISER

Lower Clapton Group Practice is looking to employ a full-time Clinical Coder and Medical Summariser. The hours of work are 37.5 hour per week, working 5 days per week, Monday to Friday.
We employ over 60 staff comprising of GP Partners, teams of Salaried GP’s, Advanced and Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacist, Healthcare Assistants, Practice Secretaries, Administrators and Receptionists who provide personalised care to over 16,000 patients. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly verbal skills are essential.
This role is based at the Lower Clapton Group Practice. The Practice is open from 8.00am to 8.00pm. The successful applicant will be a member of the Administration team completing patient related administrative tasks. Experience of working in a general practice is an advantage. Knowledge of EMIS Web computer system is essential. Please refer to the job description for full details.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the document management and summarising of all inbound medical records and correspondence working as part of a team.
Main Duties include:
· Entering electronic and paper correspondence onto the clinical system
· Review each document, code and file into patient records or where appropriate send it on to the most appropriate member of either the clinical or administrative teams
· Identify all relevant data held within patient’s paper medical notes and enter the information onto the EMIS Web clinical system
· Clarify whether medical information from paper records is relevant to either the patient’s current condition or their past medical history
· Updating and maintaining patient’s electronic medical summaries
This role would ideally suit someone who enjoys being able to manage their own workload, whilst also functioning well as part of a wider team. A willingness to learn new skills and improve on existing ones will be essential in this new role.
Qualifications and Skills
· Previous experience within a healthcare setting essential
· Experience of working in the NHS and knowledge of read codes and medical terminology is desirable
· Good IT and Communication skills are essential to this role
· Good written skills, accuracy & attention to detail
· Evidence of working in environment where confidentiality is essential.
