Job description

Contract Type: Fixed Term until 31 March 2025
Location: Council House/Hybrid Working

This post is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The Council is looking to recruit a new Climate Change Projects Officer to join the Climate Change Team, to work with colleagues and stakeholders across the city to develop and implement a range of carbon reduction and climate change adaptation projects. The essence of this post is enabling and delivering action for Derby.

The role will focus on the development and delivery of a wide range of projects to deliver agreed outputs and outcomes. Specifically, this includes supporting households to make energy efficiency improvements, organizing local climate change-related events to engage and educate citizens/employees and the provision of decarbonisation plans for organisations. This should result in increased uptake of energy efficiency measures and an estimated carbon dioxide equivalent reduction of at least 100 tonnes.

To apply for this role candidates should have experience of developing, delivering, or managing climate change and/or environmental projects within the voluntary, public or private sectors. Good knowledge of the application of climate change and low carbon related issues and the ability to communicate this information to a diverse audience base is essential. Candidates should have a high level of creativity and innovative thinking to work effectively with a wide range of different stakeholders to identify and develop project opportunities. They must be able to calculate projected or actual carbon and energy savings for a wide range of decarbonisation projects.

Candidates should also have a bachelor’s degree or other relevant professional qualification

All employees will normally be appointed to the minimum of the grade for the job. For reasons connected with a particular need of the Council it may be appropriate, subject to approval, to appoint to a higher point in the pay grade.
