Gower College Swansea is one of the largest colleges in Wales with a strong reputation for high quality teaching and learning. We have six campuses across the city with over 4,500 full time learners and 10,000 part time learners. We currently have a turnover of over £50 million making us a major employer in the region with approximately 1,000 staff.

The role:
The role holder will be responsible for the servicing of the College’s Board of Governors and its Standing Committees ensuring that the Business of the Corporation is conducted smoothly and efficiently. You will provide independent advice to the Chair and Governors on matters related to governance, ensuring that the Corporation operates within its powers as set out in the statutory governance framework.
- Part Time – 25 hours per week
- Permanent
- £52,105 per annum – pro rata to £35,205
- An additional £8,449 is payable for the Data Protection Officer duties – 6 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the business of the Corporation is conducted smoothly and efficiently; that the Corporation operates within its powers; and that the Corporation follows agreed and proper procedures in accordance with legal, statutory and public responsibilities and standards.

Provide sound well-researched, impartial advice and guidance to the Corporation and its Committees on corporate governance matters including:
- Guidance on statutory, constitutional and procedural matters;
- Independent professional advice, including legal advice from outside agencies on governance issues when appropriate;
- External or internal factors that affect governance practice, such as changes to legislation and developments in effective governance.
- Ensure that the conduct of the business of the Corporation, and of individual members, accords with the highest standards expected of those in public office, and in particular maintain and update the register of interests of members and senior managers; ensuring it is available for review by interested parties.
About you:
- Educated to a degree level or holding a professional qualification
- Experience of Corporate Governance or Senior FE Management
- Thorough understanding of Corporate governance within the FE sector
- Understanding of the legal framework within which college governing bodies function
- Knowledge and experience in Committee management
