Job description
The ward clerk is an essential part of the ward team , who works within the ward, to provide routine clerical duties, to assist the nursing staff with the organisation of the ward.
The post holder will have direct contact with patients/visitors in their capacity as Ward Clerk within an inpatient setting, under the direction and supervision of a trained nurse.
Duties will include receiving and directing patients, visitors and staff visiting the ward. To receive and make telephone calls on behalf of the Ward Manager, referring these appropriately. To collect essential information and communicate with the appropriate member of the ward team.
To undertake clerical duties relating to documentation for patients including admission paperwork, clinical notes, discharge notification, patient records etc. In conjunction with Medical Records, make outpatients appointments and transport arrangements as appropriate. To undertake filing, andany other duties of a clerical nature which may be delegated from time to time.
To participate in the use of IT and electronic Clinical Systems within the department, keeping computer based patient information up to date and amended as necessary.
Experience working within the NHS would be an advantage and having the ability to work with a computer will be essential.Good communication skills and telephone manner are very important for this role.
