Role: Cleaner/ Porter
Salary: £21,018 Full time equivalent, (pro rata part time hours £10.89 per hr)
Grade: Grade 1

Facilities Management currently have a number of cleaning/porter vacancies within our Corporate Asset Management Department.
Cleaner porter operatives are required to work across the police estate of West Midlands, covering Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Coventry, Solihull and Birmingham. We currently have a number of vacant posts available at the following sites;
- Job vacancy No. 1 Aston Park Lane 15hours per week working Mon to Fri between 7.00am – 10.00am
- Job vacancy No. 2 Edgbaston 25 hours per week working mon to Fri between 7.00am – 12.00 noon. This site is currently undergoing a full refurbishment.
- Job vacancy No. 3 Newtown 30 hours per week working Mon to Fri between 7.00am and 1.00pm. This site is currently undergoing a full refurbishment.
- Job vacancy No. 4 Stechford 1 of 2 shift patterns available working in the custody suite - Shift 1 Thurs to Sat x 5 hours per day = 15 hrs per week, Shift 2 Mon to Weds 5 hours per day = 15 hrs per week
- Job vacancy No. 5 Bloxwich/ Sandwell area 25 hours per week working Friday to Tuesday inclusive in the custody suite over weekends and mobile cleaning Fri, Mon and Tues.
There may be a requirement to commute to other sites from to time within reasonable travelling distance, to cover abstractions of colleagues.
The department consists of 3 key business areas: Fleet Services, Estates and Facilities Management, that provide a wide range of enabling support services including acquisitions and disposals, maintenance and servicing of police buildings and vehicles.
The successful applicant/s will be responsible for carrying out general cleaning and some porter duties within areas of an operational police station or partner building, that consist of offices, washrooms and welfare areas, custody suites and forensic areas.
Full training will be given commensurate with the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) standards.
Duties include:
- Damp dusting furniture, fixtures and furnishings, suction cleaning and wet mopping floors and stairwells, washing walls and other vertical surfaces and tiled areas up to a height of 3.53m (11ft) using high level cleaning equipment.
- Cleaning kitchens and welfare areas including cleaning and defrosting refrigerators, cleaning inside units and cupboards.
- Maintaining cleaning equipment and to report any faulty equipment or materials.
- Report any maintenance defects that are noted in the building.
- There may be a requirement to carry out porter duties that involves manual handling of furniture and goods, and clearing/cleaning external areas as instructed.
- You will be expected to undertake learning that equips you with the skills to safely carry out any other duties commensurate with the purpose and grading of the post.
Person Specification
You will have:
- Experience of working within a similar role, and ideally across multiple sites
- Excellent communication skills and be able to understand both written and verbal instruction.
- Basic IT skills to use apps such as email and e-learning packages
- Ability to undertake work that involves manual handling
- Desire to undertake learning and development in order to demonstrate competency in performing all duties within role, such as safe use of cleaning equipment and machinery, manual handling and lifting equipment.
- Agility to commute to alternative areas of work within the police estate as required.
- Ability to work on own initiative and possess good interpersonal skills
- Some weekend working or bank holiday working will be required as per your job description.
Vetting
Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process. Applicants must have resided in the UK for more than 3 years and be able to provide evidence of their residency.
Medical
Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks, which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
