Information
Why work at WLDPS?
Culture

Our children are enthusiastic about learning and have excellent behaviour. Our teachers are passionate about helping children achieve and develop. We are a close team with a shared sense of purpose who support one another. We care about each other and our children.

Teaching & Learning

Our pedagogy is driven by evidence backed research. We believe ongoing professional development is a right for all our teachers. Substantial time and resources are dedicated to giving our teachers ownership and support to keep improving. Our teachers become familiar with practical classroom application of formative assessment, principles of instruction, mastery, generative learning theory, retrieval practice, spatial organisation and cognitive load theory.

Curriculum

Underpinning our curriculum is the principle of social justice. Our children should have equal opportunity in their future lives, whatever their background. When coupling this with our evidence-based approach, the result is a knowledge-led curriculum. Alongside our leadership team, subject leaders decide what is taught and why. Teachers decide how this is taught, based on our pedagogy approach.

Wellbeing & Workload

Happy teachers make happy children. We place great value on our teachers’ wellbeing and work-life balance. Every decision taken has workload implications at its heart. Highlights:

  • No expectation of written marking
  • Teachers are trusted to make the best choices in feeding back to their class
  • Minimal planning time
  • No planning scrutinies
  • PPA encouraged to be taken at home
  • Laptops provided to enable flexible working patterns
  • No requirement to answer emails outside of reasonable work hours
  • Expectations set of how parents communicate with teachers
  • Only 2 deep assessment points
  • Standardised tests and comparative judgements used. No portfolio gathering.
  • Subject leader release time
  • Streamline reports
  • No weekly briefing meetings
  • Appraisals not linked to pupil attainment or progress

    Leadership Team

We believe in a culture of trust and honesty in order to build a high performing team. We focus our energies on being strategic and supportive.

    What are we looking for?

We do what we think is right, not what has always been done. We don’t mind if you don’t have experience in our approach but we do want someone who believes in what we are doing and is committed to learning, and will keep learning.

Successful candidates at interview will be observed teaching. Following the observations the successful candidate will be appointed.

This school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
