Job description
Orchid Meadow Farm specialises in all year round organic sheep’s milk production. Alongside this, we run our own organic arable business supplying feed for the dairy with the ambition to become self sufficient in feed. We also fatten all lambs born on farm, direct to abattoir and have a revolving herd of organic store cattle.
Available now is an opportunity for a TMR operator to join our team. This permanent position will be well suited to someone that is looking to further their experience in TMR feeding.
The main objective of this role is to be solely responsible for the feeding and bedding of all our dairy ewes (lactating and dry stock), in-house store lamb fattening, and a small amount of beef stock. Accuracy is key, as is attention to detail and thinking for yourself to be able to overcome everyday problems. Some examples of other general farm work could include (based on experience), assisting with routine cattle/sheep work and occasional general tractor work.
Applicants would be expected to have experience in the following areas
· TMR feeding
· Maintaining a clean and tidy workplace
· Basic farm machinery maintenance skills
· Basic animal husbandry (being able to identify poor health/wellbeing)
· Being able to work as part of a team, as well as an individual
Telehandler and ATV/RTV training would be beneficial, but not necessary as training can be provided.
The location of the job is split between two farms, the dairy being based in Shaftesbury and the other farm based in Hammoon Sturminster Newton. This particular role will see you working on both farms. Working hours for the role will average out at around the 60 hours per week mark, and is based on an every other weekend off basis. 20 days holiday plus bank holiday as well as farm pension scheme (if eligible)
