We are changing the way we build bridges. As part of a small, enthusiastic research and development team, The role will focus on developing our library of off-site manufactured products and our bridge configuration toolkit.
Examples of the activities that will be required as part of this role:
- Identifying improvements/enhancements to existing products and solutions
- Leading research workstreams to develop new products/introduce new materials
- Working with bid teams to generate modular bridge solutions for new road/rail schemes.
- Working with project teams during ECI/preliminary design/detailed design to develop efficient modular bridge designs.
- Developing sustainable solutions and supporting LORs vision to decarbonise construction.
- Designing and supervising physical trials and testing of new solutions.
- Generating and developing the rules/data to enhance our bridge configuration toolkit
Core skills required
- Civil/Structural Engineering design knowledge and experience in designing with concrete and steel to Eurocodes.
- Experience in using CAD/BIM packages and is keen to extend their learning in this area. (Solidworks and Driveworks training to be provided)
- Understands manufacturing and construction processes
Good communicator with different types of media
Desirable skills
- Experienced in the design and analysis of bridge structures with knowledge of UK standards and Eurocodes.
- Experience with parametric design and design automation
- Knowledge of or experience in design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA)
- Construction site / project experience
- Professionally qualified / chartered by a recognised body in the UK.
- Has knowledge of, or is keen to learn about data structuring, SQL relational databases and digital workflows etc.
