As one of the longest established of Cundall’s many disciplines, the Civil Engineering team are a source of world leading expertise – and offer a pro-active and collaborative approach to skill development, and professional excellence.
The Role:
As part of our established team of expert engineers and technicians, and working closely with colleagues of various disciplines, you will prepare detailed engineering calculations, and assist with specifications, scheme designs and project reports. You will work across a variety of sectors including retail, commercial, healthcare and education and will have the opportunity over time to assume greater levels of responsibility and autonomy as your professional skills develop. With accredited professional development programmes from the ICE, you will be supported towards Chartership if relevant.
This wide-ranging role will see you carrying out drainage and highways design including flood risk assessments, hydrological assessments, below ground drainage design, external works design, road horizontal and vertical alignment and earthworks analysis.
The role will require you to use your knowledge and expertise to define and translate clients’ needs into designs for buildings, infrastructure, facilities and services with sustainability at the forefront of the design.
The Skills:
You should have relevant experience in civil engineering design relating to the built environment, including the design of infrastructure (roads, drainage, flood risk assessments, pavements, earthworks, utility infrastructure) for both highway and drainage authorities (design to adoptable standards) and developers, taking schemes from initial concept/risk identification, through appropriate approval processes and on to detailed design for construction.
Experience of infrastructure as part of buildings projects working closely with other disciplines would also be an advantage. Crucially, you share Cundall’s passion for creative, sustainable and intuitive design.
You should possess a desire for personal and professional development and have proven your ability to work effectively as part of a team. You should have an organised and methodical approach to managing tasks and priorities to meet deadlines and have a close appreciation of the commercial factors which affect design solutions.
Given the collaborative and on occasions client focused nature of this role, excellent communication skills and experience of using your initiative to overcome challenges are essential.

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented Civil Engineer to join our Newcastle office to work on the design of some of the most exciting and prestigious civil engineering design projects in the UK and worldwide. We have a fantastic pipeline of work which includes projects across the UK and around the world.

Educated to degree level in Civil Engineering, with a minimum of 2 years post graduate experience, you will have gained strong practical experience in a Civil Engineering role within a design consultancy environment and are already well-versed in relevant civil design software such as Innovyse MicroDrainage InfoDrainage and Autodesk Civil 3D. Ideally, a working knowledge of QGIS would be beneficial.
