The Role

The Faculty of Medical Sciences are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and determined Data and Information Manager.

You will be responsible for managing the production and analysis of a range of student, staff and other management information to support and advise the faculty senior leadership team in planning and fulfilling its business needs, strategic objectives and statutory reporting obligations.

You will undertake as required specific market research tasks and analyse a broad range of Higher Education data to develop reports, provide briefings and support schools and Institutes throughout the planning cycle. You will be naturally collaborative, and work with colleagues across the faculty and institution to share insight into performance indicators.

We are looking for someone who can utilise their proactive problem-solving and communication skills to provide accurate and insightful analysis of a range of complex data. We are keen to hear from people who can combine their analytical skills and attention to detail to evidence their understanding of good data governance.

Key Accountabilities
The role holder will undertake a variety of the duties listed below, working individually or as a team, under the leadership of a Faculty Insights and Information Manager:
Working alongside the Insights and Information Manager to support data analysis and market research requests from Schools and the Faculty Marketing Team to underpin strategic decision making, marketing and student recruitment initiatives and new programme development
Produce and analyse a wide range of research management information to support strategic performance monitoring and key decision making processes across the Faculty, including the provision of Power BI dashboards, specialist support and information to assist with the development of strategic and operational plans
Support the preparation of submissions to research assessment exercises to ensure an optimal result. In particular, this will involve collection, review, manipulation and analysis of data pertaining to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercises and analysis of results, including ‘Research Quality Research Groups’
Responsible for the dissemination, review and collection of Faculty data required for university statutory reporting such as HEBCIS, HESES, HESA staff and student returns and Freedom of Information requests
Develop ways of working in cognisance of good governance, promoting increased transparency and access to information in line with university policy and ensure legislative requirements and good practice initiatives are incorporated within the work of the team through active horizon scanning
Support the Faculty planning process through production of a broad range of summary and statistical reports using data sourced from internal systems such as SAP and Business Warehouse, external systems such as HEIDI and broader data mining techniques
Support the Deputy Director of Faculty Operations directly on faculty planning activities around student numbers, fees, Faculty KPIs (and any other data required for annual cycle of planning and reporting)
Develop and produce individual reports and analyses, using both quantitative and qualitative data, on an ad hoc basis as required by the members of the faculty senior leadership team; to support business cases, funding applications and internal reviews using a range of internal and external data sources and data mining
To contribute to the development and support of Management Information Systems (e.g. SAP Business Warehouse), working closely with the Planning Office, NUIT and other relevant central services to improve reporting requirements and data integrity
To manage the development of and delivery of projects to further Faculty strategic goals. This will include:
Identifying ideal methodology and providing oversight on the data collection process and analytic work plan to ensure all available information is generated to support business needs
Produce meaningful and engaging reports and analysis that will allow engagement with staff and students via project and policy developments (e.g. running consultation events)
Completing and conveying analysis and recommendations via presentations and written reports to staff and students
Leveraging research data and information to proactively identify opportunities and gaining internal support for project recommendations
Undertake training to support the development of data management skills amongst colleagues in the faculty
Deputise for the Faculty Insights and Information Manager where appropriate
Any other duties within the scope and general nature of the grade which may be required

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
An excellent understanding of the Higher Education sector and the political and policy, regulatory and reporting context research intensive universities operate in
Advanced skills and experience working with large complex data sets and using data analysis tools, dashboards and business intelligence systems to analyse, interpret and communicate insights and information to a range of audiences
A strategic thinker with a strong understanding how strategy development, planning, implementation and strategy oversight operates in a complex organisation
Excellent numeracy, together with a high level of competency and confidence in handling and manipulating data from a diverse range of sources
