Chichester Cinema at New Park is a much-loved local institution and is looking for a part-time Operations Assistant to sustain our excellent customer service. We are a proudly independent single-screen cinema committed to presenting the very best in film from the UK and around the world. We curate a programme of films that has delighted our audiences for decades and stage the Chichester International Film Festival in August which includes premieres, open-air screenings, previews and retrospectives.
The Cinema Operations Assistant will be required to work in the Box Office and Projection Box. This will be over 2-3 days per week, plus covering shifts in both departments for sickness and annual leave. BOX OFFICE OVERVIEW
Working in the Box Office is a vital role at the heart of the cinema. As first point of contact you must be personable, polite and helpful. The role can be surprisingly varied; you will converse with customers and volunteers, sell tickets and deal with a variety of issues. The applicant should have an interest in film, and at least two years’ experience in a customer-facing/retail environment.
Box Office Key Responsibilities
· Using our ‘Oscar’ software you will be dealing with all aspects of ticketing; from sales to refunds & exchanges. This can be in person, on the phone or via email.
· Other duties include refreshing posters, selling vouchers and memberships and answering questions about the schedule or providing directions and recommendations. Some general office admin will also be required.
· Effectively, you will be an important link between the cinema and our volunteers, the vital cogs in the cinema’s operations.
· You will also be responsible for cashing up and locking the building at night.

PROJECTION OVERVIEW
The Projection role is core to cinema exhibition. Without a film on the screen, nothing else matters. Computer knowledge is beneficial to this role, as is a bit of technical know-how, but most important is a willingness to learn as full training will be provided.
Projection Key Responsibilities
· Using the Projection software, you will ingest films onto the server, create show playlists, play films and control the lighting and masking curtains in the auditorium.
· You will also play live streams of Performance Events (operas etc), as well as doing the required tests before the events, and the recording of events when required.
· Any screenings involving microphones and lighting will also need to be overseen by the applicant. You will also need to prepare and play films in the cinema’s Studio and 13-seat Picture Palace when required.Again, full training will be provided.

CANDIDATES
This neighbourhood cinema in the heart of Chichester thrives on the helpful, collaborative, can-do attitude of both staff and volunteers.
You will need to be self-motivated, able to use your initiative, have a willingness to learn and muck-in, be calm under pressure and be confident enough to handle a variety of situations associated with a public building. Often working alone, you will need a high degree of independence. Some experience of working within a customer service environment is highly desirable.
Being comfortable with technical equipment/computers will be desirable for the projection part of the role together with Word, Excel and Email skills.
We have two full-time projectionists and four box office staff. You will report to the Operations Manager.

HOURS
You will be required to work 1 shift in Projection (usually weekend) and 1 shift in the Box Office (usually Thursday or Friday afternoon) per week. Flexibility to cover other shifts is required.
Box Office hours are generally 11 – 5pm or 5 to the end of the last film, generally between 10pm -11pm. Projection hours vary, but are generally from around 12:30pm to 10:30pm
All candidates must be available in August for the Film Festival.
Any students applying, please bear in mind that the role functions throughout the year. Therefore, it is not a suitable post for anyone returning home in the holidays.
