Production Assistant and Machine Operator
Salary: From £24,000 per year
Location: Sawston. This is a factory-based role.
Job Type: Permanent, full-time (working hours 08:30-17:00, Monday-Friday), part-time hours might be considered.
Start date: September 2023
About us:
We are a chocolate brand based in Sawston, near Cambridge, making healthier, high-quality chocolate under the Ombar brand. All our chocolate is made on-site in our chocolate factory and sold to health food shops, Morrisons and Waitrose, and directly to individual customers.
As a Chocolate Production Assistant, you and your colleagues will share the tasks of refining ingredients, moulding, wrapping, packing and dispatching chocolate bars.
Your role:
You will work on a section rotation and take ownership of your tasks, but your role will mainly involve operating wrapping machines. You will visually inspect each bar before the machine wraps it, check the wrapping quality, and complete multiple safety and date checks throughout the day. Some aspects of this role can be quite physical, particularly ingredients handling and standing for a prolonged time while running wrapping machines.
As we aim to train everyone in various activities to create a strong, competent team, you will also be given progression opportunities.
Please note you come in contact with nuts (including peanuts) and oats while at work.
Key duties:
- Setting up and cleaning wrapping lines and parts of machinery every day
- Wrapping chocolate bars on various machines
- Packing wrapped bars into boxes
- Working on the moulding line - extracting bars from production moulds
- Conducting quality and date checks
- End of the day cleaning
- Handling ingredients (which can include lifting 25kg bags for up to two hours per day)
- Adhering to safety and hygiene standards
- Assisting in dispatch under the direction of the Operations Manager
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Previous work experience
- Foundation Level Mathematics/GCSE Mathematics C grade or above / equivalent Mathematics grade
- Diligence, speed and accuracy
- Good manual dexterity by passing our in-house assembly test
- Effective communication skills (however, fluent English is not required)
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Previous experience working in a factory or warehouse (desirable)
- Understanding how food processing machinery works in a factory setting (desirable)
- Driving a forklift experience (desirable)
