Job description

Due to new increased financial investment in the Occupational Therapy service, we are expanding our clinical pathways to offer increased support for children and young people in Buckinghamshire.

We are recruiting an Occupational Therapist with a passion for working with young people with sensory processing differences to join our Integrated Children and Young People’s Therapies Service in Buckinghamshire. This post is a result of exciting and innovative service developments and redesign in the Occupational Therapy service.

This post will work closely with our Clinical Lead for Autism and Sensory Processing to support children and young people where sensory processing differences are having a significant impact on their ability to participate in school and home life from ages 0-19 years.

To support your development, we are committed to providing the post holder with external training and internal training from our Advanced Sensory Integration Practitioners and our Clinical Specialist in this field.

The Occupational Therapy Service forms part of an Integrated Children and Young People’s Therapies Service working closely with Speech and Language Therapy and Physiotherapy as well as wider children and young people’s services including Health Visitors, Community Nurses for Children with a Learning Disability, Community Paediatricians and School Nurses.

  • To provide high quality occupational therapy, targeted and specialist advice, training, assessment and intervention.
  • To maintain up to date and accurate case notes in line with RCOT professional standards and Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust directives.
  • To make appropriate clinical decisions following universal and targeted advice in line with service pathways.
  • To make appropriate clinical decisions following specialist assessments, including differential diagnosis on the basis of evidence from assessment and levels of therapy input.
  • To act as a specialist consultant to Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) and Inclusion Managers, Teachers, Learning Support Assistants, and parents within mainstream schools.
  • To train, work in collaboration with, and monitor the work of OT Therapy Assistants within the context of skill-mix therapy.
  • To participate in the development of local, regional, and national clinical guidelines, informed by evidence, for clinical specialism.
